Just spent the weekend on Tassie’s west coast. It’s about as rugged as it gets.

The Queenstown air strip
Queenstown has been largely untouched by the tourist boom that’s taken over nearby Strahan. It’s very much still a mining town, with the bare hills of Mt Lyell looming over the main street.

Jess took some photos too
The reason for the trip was to check out the long-abandoned Lake Margaret village, which will feature in an exciting project that’s in the works. More news soon!

Nothing blog-worthy happening this week so I thought I’d dig out some old pics from our time in New York last year.

We were really keen to stay in Brooklyn but not knowing much about the area we sub-let an apartment in an suburb called Bed-Stuy. We later found out that it was a pretty notorious neighborhood - we had to walk past the public housing complex where Jay-Z grew up (and shot his brother when he was 12) to get to the subway.
We were also just around the corner from where Dave Chapelle’s Block Party was filmed.

Anyway, we survived. And we got to see a part of New York that we would have missed if we were staying in Manhattan.

The best thing about the apartment building was the rooftop looking over the river to Manhattan - we spent a bit of time up there. PJ Harvey’s You Said Something was constantly in our heads.
I went along to the Tasmanian Sci-Fi Convention last weekend to take some shots for a personal project.

I was really interested in taking the portraits in locations way out of context to the costumes. Luckily it was at the Wrest Point Casino, so there was plenty of gaudy carpet and fake indoor plants.

Check out this costume, I can’t remember the character but he made it himself. Impressive!
